WARWICK, QC — In a night filled with shocking twists, championship changes, and unforgettable performances, former Ring of Honor World Champion “The Octopus” Jonathan Gresham defeated the incredible Stu Grayson to become the new VICTORY RING Champion in what is already being hailed as one of the greatest matches in company history.
The highly anticipated main event delivered a masterclass in technical wrestling between Gresham and Grayson, keeping the Warwick crowd on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
However, the match concluded under controversial circumstances when Northern Thunder — the team of London Lightning and Storm Ryder — attempted to interfere. At the decisive moment, Northern Thunder held Stu Grayson’s feet from outside the ring, preventing the champion from escaping as Gresham scored the pinfall victory, capturing the championship without even realizing what had happened. Following the match, Northern Thunder attempted to mock Grayson for the loss, but Grayson and Gresham quickly joined forces to drive both men from the ring.
Another major upset occurred earlier in the evening involving the VICTORY RING Heritage Championship. Due to Beast King FTM being unable to compete, VICTORY RING management initially declared Mathis Myre the Interim Heritage Champion. However, Bjorg of Dominion — accompanied by manager “Sugar” Shane Pinto — reminded everyone that he had just won the Heritage Gauntlet Match earlier in the night and had already earned his status as the number-one contender.
Mathis Myre then made the courageous decision to defend the championship immediately. Despite a remarkable performance, interference from Vanessa Kraven and Shane Pinto allowed Bjorg to defeat Myre and become the new VICTORY RING Heritage Champion, earning the first singles championship of his VICTORY RING career.
The evening also saw WWE ID prospect Marcus Mathers defeat Zach Patterson in an intense and highly competitive contest that brought the crowd to its feet. Following the match, an enraged Patterson claimed that VICTORY RING management was constantly stacking the deck against him and insisted that he was the true number-one competitor in the company. Commissioner Réjean Côté then announced a special Rumble Match for the next event, VICTORY RING: ULTRA, with Patterson officially entering at number one.
In tag team action, The Duke Boys — represented by “Mr. Saturday Night” Corey Duke and newcomer Shawn Knyte, accompanied by Meuh-Meuh, the official mascot of Expo Victo — defeated Northern Thunder in a wild and action-packed match that had the crowd on its feet.
The Heritage Gauntlet Match featured “Rascal King” Tyler Knox, “Skywalkin’” KJ Swayde, “Reflection of Perfection” Mikey Thunder, the maniacal Maredes, the imposing Wrecking Ball Legurski, and Dominion’s “Belgian Colossus” Bjorg in an all-out war filled with chaos and spectacular moments. Bjorg ultimately secured the victory and his Heritage Championship opportunity after defeating KJ Swayde thanks to a timely intervention from “The Mountain” Vanessa Kraven.
What was originally scheduled as a singles match between “The Vagabond” Ryan Rogan and Dustin “Flash” Waller turned into a Triple Threat Match when returning fan favorite Junior Benito was added to the contest by VICTORY RING management. In a fast-paced and explosive encounter, Rogan appeared moments away from victory before Waller stole the win by pinning Benito.
In the women’s division, the impressive Dreya Mitchell defeated “Ultimate Woman” Layla Wilde following a highly athletic and competitive match that showcased the talents of both competitors.
The VICTORY RING Tag Team Championships were also on the line in a chaotic confrontation. Earlier in the evening, Dominion attempted to intimidate Commissioner Réjean Côté, prompting Loïc Bouchard and Pat McHaggis to come to his defense. Tag Team Champions Chocolate City accepted the challenge and successfully retained their titles when Wilson delivered his devastating top-rope elbow drop to Loïc Bouchard.
The next event, VICTORY RING: ULTRA, promises to be the biggest show in company history. The event will take place on Saturday, July 25, at the Colisée Desjardins as part of Expo Agricole de Victoriaville and the Festival des Hommes Forts de Victoriaville.
Fans will be able to attend the event free of charge with their Expo Victoriaville admission pass, while floor seating will be available for an additional $10.
More details will be available soon at victoryring.net and across VICTORY RING’s social media platforms.
